London Hydro makes donation to Green Building

London Hydro is donating $50,000 for technology and the research and development of alternative energy projects at the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion at The University of Western Ontario.

The donation to the university’s first LEED (leadership in energy and design) certified Green Building was announced on Monday.

London Hydro has a longstanding relationship with the Faculty of Engineering, says chair Peter Johnson, adding energy conservation and the development of new technologies are important for the success of the city and the county.

Western President Paul Davenport says the university would not be able to succeed “without our friends in the community.”

Clean energy and reducing pollution will be a major focus at the Green Building.

A separate donation of $30,000 will also be made to the Mayor’s Sustainable Energy Council’s Sustainable Energy Lecture Series and other innovative energy projects.

The Mayor’s Sustainability Energy Council was established in 2007 to promote, encourage and support the development and implementation of practical research and initiatives, technologies and investment in sustainable energy.
